Understanding Shutter Speed

Understanding Shutter Speed by Bryan Peterson.   I just bought my third book by this same author, and I’m very impressed with both his talent and his writing ability.  This book builds on his earlier book, Understanding Exposure, which I higly recommend starting with right after you learn where things are on your camera.

Once you understand the nature of f-stops, and the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO, pick up this reference and learn about creative shutter speeds.  What do you want to do when you want to stop action?  Anything faster than 1/250 needs to be messed with here.  What’s the only shutter speed for capturing rain or a rain effect? 1/60.  Do you want to blur motion? Learn to pan? Create those “exploding pictures“?

This book clearly spells out how to achieve each of those, as well as showing multiple full-color glossy pics that demonstrate the technique, showing both the most dynamic effect and what happens if you go too fast or too slow for the desired outcome.  I highly recommend this guy!
